Through ultrasound, a baby can be seen hiccuping, waving, bouncing around the womb like a little gymnast. The emotional toll of abortion on mothers is a story totally misrepresented and under-reported. Depression, substance abuse, suicide, relationship problems, low self-esteem, guilt, sorrow, regret...just to name a few. With a little conversation, they all admit that they regret aborting their child. Often, a second abortion justifies the first and it's a vicious cycle.

I say we start aborting the litters of our animals...those dogs are often raped, they didn't ask for insemination. Giving birth is painful, they may already have a young brood and can't take care of five more babies, the father left her, she's tired, she didn't mean for that one-night-stand to happen, she's too old, she's too young, she comes into heat irregularly and didn't think a litter would be conceived...

Why not? We have wiped out future generations of our children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren, what's a few dogs and cats in the whole scheme of things? It's A Wonderfulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17201677178611525737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599213716202959503.post-79651738100052014352011-01-31T13:26:59.347-05:002011-01-31T13:26:59.347-05:00Exellently-written post! This is really an eye-opener.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599213716202959503.post-10084589189011616662011-01-30T19:46:36.691-05:002011-01-30T19:46:36.691-05:00Very nicely written Dad. While I do agree with several of your observations regarding the mechanics and legalities of Roe vs. Wade (Roe's argument pertaining to privacy as the main vehicle for his victory), I think the following phrase you used is a little too one sided-

"Roe contributed mightily to the development of a culture of selfishness, perversion and death that undermines society itself"

While I do agree that America's current pop culture and system of values is in serious need of a makeover, I have trouble placing any of the blame on abortion legality. Yes, like any piece of legislation that grants someone a liberty, it is bound to face some abuse. There will always be people who use abortion as a crutch to not practice safe sex, etc, and I agree with you wholeheartedly that that is a terrible thing. However, having the legal right to terminate a fetus can be a godsend to people in many different situations-

*A woman is raped, becomes pregnant, and isn't in a situation where she can face 9 grueling months of carrying a baby

*The pregnancy will risk the safety or health of the mother

*The fetus has a severe mental or physical handicap that will inhibit it from ever being able to live a normal life, and the parents aren't emotionally or economically capable to care for a child in that condition

*A responsible married couple is practicing safe sex, but the condom breaks, the woman becomes pregnant, and the couple can't afford to have a baby at that point in their life

I'm sure there are many more scenarios like this where an abortion would be the safest and most practical solution for everybody. And of course, it should always be an absolute last resort, something practiced only when all other options have been exhausted.

Liberties will always be abused. We have a right to bear arms, and violence happens every day. We have a right to free speech, and people use that to promote hatred, racism, and anarchy; but we shouldn't outlaw everything that has the capacity to be misused.

Like I said, I agree with a lot of your post, especially your point that it would have made a lot more sense to leave it in the hands of the states and let them set guidelines for abortion based on their own discretion. Just figured I'd chime in and churn the pot a bit!Colinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07733574294989613604noreply@blogger.com
