Oh, Mr Moose and Bunny Rabbit and those carrots!
On Thanksgiving, the Captain would broadcast the other parades (Toronto, Detroit, and one other).
The Captain was brilliant, reading all those great children’s books on the air, like the one about the Steam Shovel.
Our Thanksgiving dinners were with my aunt and uncle and three cousins. My two brothers made my family three boys, while my three cousins were all girls. Of course, we all set at the kitchen table while the adults had the wood dining room table.
The has gone down hill since then with widespread divorce and the disintegration of the family. But God is always good.
Engineerbrucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03329859341579583790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599213716202959503.post-30967731600937736802018-11-25T15:02:33.093-05:002018-11-25T15:02:33.093-05:00I can't believe, after all these years and unc...I can't believe, after all these years and uncovered footage posted on the web, that the Captain Kangaroo Thanksgiving episode is nowhere to be found.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599213716202959503.post-51923463134312068202014-11-30T14:19:43.670-05:002014-11-30T14:19:43.670-05:00It was so nice to read that someone else enjoyed t...It was so nice to read that someone else enjoyed the Captain's Thanksgiving show as much as I did. From 8 to 18 I would prepare the bread for my mother's stuffing while watching the magic drawing board etch a scene, see the Captain and Mr. Greenjeans set the table and listen to "We Gather Together". I have 2 regrets, the first being that the show ended before my son was old enough to remember the Captain and the second that the show is not on tape for my grandchildren. They'll go anywhere if one of their children escort them.

I loved the Captain. And you're so right-on about the televised Thanksgiving Day parades...I was cooking and watching it on TV, then got fed up with it after 20 minutes and just turned it off. It is a bunch of drivel.

Ha, ha...you dropped the jello but not one book fell. Your books were hallowed, after all! What a great memory of Grandma's and Grandpa's. How I miss them!

The hymn is beautiful. One of my favorites. Thanks for the history behind the hymn...was that in one of those books you refused to relinquish over the jello?

Merry Christmas! Thank you for the pleasant memory!
I, also, enjoyed reading about your family dinners. It did remind me of the Waltons.
